International Network of Prayer
A new expression of the charism of Nano Nagle in our day is the Associates' Movement. Together with the Sisters, Presentation Associates are companions in prayer and partners in mission. Nano Nagle's charism, spirituality and mission motivate their daily lives, and challenge them to animate her mission through a lived commitment, a public witness of words and actions. This lived experience provides fresh insights and challenges, and speaks clearly of the life and energy of the Holy Spirit active in today's world.
Presentation Associates are lay women and men called to share in the life and ministry of the Presentation Sisters without seeking vowed membership. The Associate relationship is a movement, a true breath of the Spirit, calling
us to a new sense of co-responsibility of our mission: "Doing justice in the way of Jesus."
The Associates' Movement began as a response to the Vatican II directive that the laity be given a more active role in the Church.
In 1995, the Union of Sisters of the Presentation - U.S. Province, established the first Associates' group in Whittier, California. After a two-year formation process, the nine women made their formal commitment, and received the Associate's symbol on June 19, 1998, the Feast of the Sacred Heart.
The Associates' Movement throughout the U.S. Province continues to grow. Currently there are groups in Southern
California, Northern California, Texas, Arizona, and Mississippi.
Each Associates' group has its own uniqueness. The groups all meet once a month and have diverse levels of activity. A Presentation Sister coordinates each group and their monthly meetings, with the Director of Associates responsible for the overall program.
The International Network of Prayer allows Presentation Associates worldwide, to be connected in prayer. Through the daily recitation of a common prayer, members re-commit themselves to God, pray for each other, and for new members to join us as Presentation Associates.

On February 12, 2008 six of us, from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, had the privilege of witnessing the wonderful services provided to the poor and homeless by The Lantern Light Ministries in New Orleans. What a truly uplifting and remarkable experience it was. Here the homeless have a uniquely designed and beautifully landscaped refuge they can call their own. Besides, food, showers, telephones, medical services, counseling etc. the Presentation Sisters provide a caring ministry to approximately a hundred guests each day. Nano Nagle is certainly continuing her work with the poor through them.
Reflecting upon this visit, we were very impressed by the conduct and attitude of the guests. It was heartwarming to see so many men and women, many with broken lives, calmly sitting in the sun or shade, reading, talking to each other or just enjoying the fact that they have a safe and comfortable to spend part of their day. It was enlightening to look at the faces of these individuals and realize that he or she could be a close friend, relative or a neighbor struggling at this particular time of their lives. In any event, we were reminded that they are truly our brothers and sisters in Christ and that their plight cannot be ignored.
Lantern Light Ministries is a Collaborative Ministry of the eight Presentation Congregations of North America. Sister Vera Butler of Union is a member of this Collaborative Community. For further information, click here.
