NANO NAGLE CERAMIC PLAQUE

Abbey NanoThis handmade ceramic plaque of Nano Nagle, foundress of the Presentation Sisters, measures 9¾ inches high x 5¼ inches wide. The plaque is a creation of St. Andrew's Abbey, a Benedictine monastery, situated in the high desert of Valyermo, California, was founded in 1956 by nine monks exiled from China.

As an expression of their monastic life, the monks began the design and manufacture of ceramic icons and plaque, reflecting Benedictine reverence for the Saints of both the Old and New Testament and unbounded joy in nature.

This artifact is unique not only in style, but in execution: made entirely by hand with natural materials, twice fired, the second firing to cone 10 (2,350º Fahrenheit), no two exactly alike. The plaque is an expression of the wonder of creation and the joy of the Divine presence.
