The Presentation Sisters of San Francisco came to St. John Parish, San Lorenzo California, in 1952. They were invited to staff the Elementary School which was built at that time. The Convent was not ready so they took up residence in the private home of the Silva family who lived just beside the Church property. Most of the family had moved from the home. The last member of the family vacated the home to accommodate the Sisters. The new Convent building which is now the present Convent was completed in 1955. That same year the Sisters took up residence in the Convent. In 1970 the last of the Presentation Sisters of San Francisco left St. John’s. The school was on the verge of closing but Sister Frances and her companion went to Ireland. During their mission they made many appeals for sisters who would be willing to come to St. John's. The Pastor, Father Mallon, a native of Ireland also made appeals. The efforts bore fruit and four of the Sisters from Sexton St. Limerick who had volunteered were missioned to St. John Parish - Sister Eileen Honan R.I.P., Sister Florence Lawlor, Sister Peggy Morrissey, and Sister Anne Marie Ryan. They arrived on August 16, 1971. During the ensuing thirty-seven years many sisters in the U.S. Province and in other provinces of the Congregation have ministered in St. John Parish. Presentation Sisters continued ministering in the school until 2006. Of the present community, Sisters Florence Lawlor, Anne Lucey, Joan Mulvihill, and Teresa O'Connell have retired and Sister Julie Hurtado ministers as a nurse in St. Rose Hospital in Hayward. Presentation presence is very much alive in St. John Parish as the Sisters continue to minister in various ways in the parish community.
